I painted a supergraphics mural
I partnered with my
friends at Home Depot and BEHR Paints to create a super
graphics mural in our guest room / home office. I used five different BEHR Paints colors (listed below)
in this fun and funky mural that bounces around the room including the ceiling.
We
all have our favorite stores that we love to shop at, and for me that fun place
is The Home Depot. I often find myself visiting once a week to check out the
newest tools, plants, and yes of course the paints. I swung by
the BEHR Paints section to get inspired by their
amazing variety of paint colors. It was hard to choose just one, so I ended up
choosing multiple colors to work with. I picked out five colors that I really
loved and arranged them in the order that I felt worked best.
I
had the Home Depot paint counter mix
the colors for me in the color sample size. I got one sample size for each
color, which was plenty of paint for this project. The color samples are a
great price point at around $4 each.
- Both Yellow and Green Frog Tape
- Touch up roller and tray for each color (5 total)
- Extra rollers 2pk 1 per color
- Plastic 9'X12' painter tarps 3pk
- Multi pack of foam Brushes
- Utility knife
- Plastic smoothing tool
BEHR Paints colors used for this project:
Before
getting started, I prepped the room by removing anything that I didn't want to
risk getting paint on. I covered items too large to remove with drop cloths. I
started in the top ceiling corner with the yellow frog tape and worked my way
down towards the opposite corner (Top left to bottom right). I didn't measure
out any specific area, but just let the tape do the work by lightly pulling
down to create fun and bold lines. After taping off the first wall, I connected
the tape in the corner on the opposite wall and worked my way upward to the
next corner (bottom left to top right).
Pro
Tip: I cut
the tape in the corners with a Utility knife so I’d have crisp lines to connect
the next piece of tape to the lines on the opposite wall. I also used a plastic
smoothing tool to help apply the tape
to the walls, which helped reduce the paint from bleeding under the taped off
lines.
I
taped off the top and the bottom sections at the same time so that I was able
to paint two
colors the first day. I let both colors dry for a full day before moving on to paint the next colors. I knew I wanted the top line to be the bright yellow (Extreme Yellow)
so I started
painting that color section first. Then I painted the darkest shade of blue (Deep Breath) in
the bottom section.
I
spent a little more time on the ceiling to insure I had clean lines, and less to touch up at
the end.
I spaced out the colors by
painting two colors each day for three days. This way each color had a full day
to dry before I taped over it to paint the next color.
It was so satisfying pulling off the tape for
the last paint color!
This
was the point when I could really see all the bold colorful lines come together
and bounce around the room.
Once
all the colors were dry, I used the original wall color (BEHR ultra-white) and a small touch up
brush to clean up any areas where the yellow or the dark blue bled through the
tape, which really gave that clean crisp line look.
I'm
so happy with the final product, and I’m glad I chose to use multiple shades
that could stand out. This is a simple project that anyone can do. I spent around
2 hours each day for a total of 3 days to complete the project. Go check out
some of the trending colors at The Home Depot and get inspired. Remember you
don’t have to limit yourself to just one color. Get creative and make your home
your dream home, one room at a time!
